Requested Rooting Method [#RRM]

So here today, In The #RRM (Requested Rooting Method) Series After Receiving A Rooting Method Request From yongky textiera For Rooting His Asus Zenpad 8.0 [Z380KL] [P024]. I’m writing this whole guide which not only will help you Root your Asus Zenpad 8.0. But also install A Custom TWRP Recovery on It as well!

What’s even good is that I’m also planning on doing another “How-To” Tutorial for the Asus Zenpad 8.0 which will help install LineageOS 14.1 [Android Nugat] On your Zenpad 8.0! So if you’re interested in that, Subscribe to our notifications by pressing that little bell icon on the Lower right corner of your screen so you’ll be notified when I release that tutorial.

How To Root Asus Zenpad 8.0 [Z380KL] [P024] WITHOUT PC

NOTE: This guide is freaking long and it took me forever to piece together different steps from different guides all the while making it easier enough for a normal person to understand. That’s why this guide is longer than your usual rooting guides. There was a lot of things to do in order to root that goddam thing that I have divided this guide into Four Short Parts.

  • 1: Down-Grading From Marshmallow To Lollipop
  • 2: Rooting Asus Zenpad 8.0 Via KingRoot
  • 3: Confirming Root Access Via RootChecker
  • 4: Installing TWRP Recovery On Asus Zenpad 8.0
  • [OPTIONAL] Installing SuperSU On Asus Zenpad 8.0
  • [NEXT POST] Installing Android Nougat On Zenpad 8.0

If you’re Zenpad 8.0, for example, is already running on Android Lollipop Update. then you can skip the first part and directly start from the Rooting Process and vice versa. This process is going to be long, But trust me it’ll be worth it!

Also, If the line, “Installing Android Nougat” caught your eyes. Then yes, I’m planning on doing another tutorial where I’ll show you how to install Android Nougat On your Asus Zenpad 8.0 With that being said, Good Luck & Have Fun!

UPDATE: That Android Nougat Installation Guide Is Now Available Here

Down-Grading From Marshmallow To Lollipop

Download Android Lollipop Firmware For Your Asus Zenpad 8.0 [Z380KL] [P024] From The Download Button Bellow. The File is quite big though. (Around 1.2GB) so make sure you have a good internet connection. After you’ve downloaded the Firmware. Follow the handy instructions down below!

NOTE: You can skip this step if your Asus Zenpad 8.0 is already running on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) Update.

Step 1: Put the Frimware.zip file you’ve just downloaded on your SD-Card. It could be anywhere.

For Example – Storage / SD-Card / ROM / Frimware.zip

Step 2: After you’ve done that, Reboot your phone into the stock recovery by shutting down your tab. Now press and hold Volume Down and Power Button at the same time.

NOTE: If this doesn’t work on your Tab. Try these methods.

Step 3: When you’re in Recovery Mode. You can control it via your Volume & Power Buttons. It’s usually written somewhere in the recovery screen but here are the standard control schemes.

  • Volume(+) = Select
  • Volume(-) = Down.
  • Power Button = Back

NOTE: Of course these controls can vary from device to device but from what I know. This is how you usually control it.

Step 4: In the main menu. Select “Apply Update From SD-Card”/

Step 5: In The browse list. Select the folder/place you put the frimware.zip.

For Example – Storage / SD-Card / ROM / Frimware.zip

Step 6: Select the Frimware.zip And Flash It!

If you’ve downloaded the right firmware file. (You probably should cuz that’s the only link I put above) The recovery will automatically flash it. And with that, you’ll soon be able to reboot into Android Lollipop.

Now that you’re on Android Lollipop, Take your time & set-up your tablet. Now then, LET’S ROOT YOUR TAB! ONTO THE NEXT PART!

Rooting Asus Zenpad 8.0 [Z380KL] [P024] With KingRoot

Because it is easier to unlock the bootloader on Android Lollipop. [Not To Mention It’s Easier To Root Android Lollipop In general] If you find the whole “ADB” thing kind of hard to understand. You can ROOT your Asus Zenpad 8.0 Without PC Using the good old KingRoot app! Not only it’s easier to root with it. But it also eliminates the need for having a PC. So for those of you who don’t have a PC. This is the best you’re gonna get.

Step 1: First of all download the KingRoot apk From the button above, After the download is finished install the apk.

Step 4: After you press the button, the app will now try to find loopholes in the system in order to root it. The progress meter in the middle of the screen will show the progress,

Step 5: If the Rooting is successful, you’ll see a screen like this…

Great, this means you are rooted! You have my congrats, By the way, if your device gets rebooted then don’t panic just restart the whole process! Or try Out Kingroot 4.1 some guys at XDA were saying that it worked for them. [Source Is Here] [Download KingRoot 4.1]

Confirming Root Access Via Root Checker

So after you’ve gone through all that, It’s time to see if your Zenpad 8.0 is successfully Rooted or not. If you’ve tried Rooting your Tablet or any other phone, in general, Before. You’re probably familiar with the Root Checker App. If you’re a newbie however and don’t know what it is. It’s basically what it sounds like. It checks whether your device (In this case Zenpad 8.0) has root access or not. It is 100% Accurate and I recommend this all the time to check if your phone is really rooted or not.

Step 1: Download the RootChecker app from the Google Play or Google Drive Buttons Above.

Step 2: Install & Open The App.

Step 3: On the main screen Tap the “Verify Root Access” button.

Step 4: If you see a screen similar to this with Heading like “Congrats Your Device Is Rooted” Etc. Then…. Yay!… I guess.

If you, however, got the “Root Not Found” Screen with a Cross over your device name then my friend you need to repeat the “Rooting” Part. Don’t worry if you failed for the first time. It happens to even Pros like me! So cheer up. And you can always ask me for help in the comment section if you want.

Installing TWRP Recovery On Asus Zenpad 8.0 [Z3580KL] [P024]

Download-Button Google Drive

So the whole point of me to root this tablet was to get it a TWRP Recovery. Because other than that. It was pretty much useless to downgrade just to root it. Because with TWRP Installed, you can do so much more! And yes that includes upgrading your Asus Zenpad 8.0 to god damn Android Nougat. (More On This Later)

Step 1: First of all Download Flashify App. From The Google Play / Google Drive Button Below.

  • Flashify 1.9.2 Apk

 Download-Button Google Drive

Step 2: Now open Flashify from your app drawer. Once you open it, You’ll see three Options.

Step 3: After you select the “Recovery Image” Option You will see another menu pop-up. Saying “Flash Recovery” From The Five Options. Select “Choose A File” Option.

Step 4: After this, You’ll need to browse through your file explorer & select the TWRP.img And flash it.

And after that, the whole process is automated. When Flashify finishes. You can try booting up in recovery mode to check if its working or not. If not, Then repeat the whole process or leave your issue in the comment section down below.

[OPTIONAL] Installing SuperSU On Asus Zenpad 8.0

 Download-Button Google Drive

NOTE: This part isn’t really necessary to do. Because we’re going to install Android Nougat On your Zenpad 8.0 anyway so you really won’t be using Android Lollipop like at all. But if you just can’t stand using KingUser then you can Replace it with SuperSU.

After you’ve successfully gained Root Access On Your Zenpad 8.0. Now What? Well If you know anything about rooting Android then you’ve probably heard of the app “SuperSU”. It’s a Root Permission Manager App. for those who don’t know, SuperSU in a nutshell, Is basically guard that allows or deny any app which wants to get Root Access.

You can’t let every app to gain root access Because Rooting your phone is a double edged sword. Some apps will use it to improve your phone’s performance / Interface while others may just use it to bring Unremovable Viruses. To prevent all that from happening we need a nice little guard which allows us to control which app we want to gain Root access and which we don’t. If you want to learn more about Rooting then you can check out this post.

Step 1: Download the SuperSu app from the Google Play Store Or the Google Drive Buttons above.

Step 2: Install & Open It.

Step 3: Let it initialize the Root Access.

Step 4: It will probably ask for root access with a pop-up tap on “Allow”.

However if the methods above. doesn’t work you can directly flash the SuperSU.zip from the TWRP Recovery you’ve just installed.

I know after doing all this you’ll be thinking…

But My Asus Zenpad 8.0 Is Now On Android Lollipop! I DON’T WANT THAT!
