Hey, what’s going on guys? My name is Akash and today I’m back with some serious news! Yes, you’ve read the title right! Cyanogen Inc is indeed shutting it’s doors and will no longer support any device! So without any further ado let’s jump into it.
Cyanogen Inc Headquarters Is Shutting down!
Well, to be honest, this was expected.
So, if you remember in some of my old posts I mentioned that how big of a mess Cyanogen Inc has become in the last couple of months. And now according to the reports, it is now official that Cyanogen Inc. will be shutting down its headquarters in Seattle and layoff more employees.
Just Today, Cyanogen Inc has announced that they will be shutting down all of their services. The company also said that Cyanogen-supported nightly builds will be discontinued by the end of the month.
Which means no more update to any phone that supported Cyanogen ROMs and not only that if you’re using any Cyanogen-powered devices like the Yu Yureka, OnePlus One or ZUK Z1, you will not be getting future updates.
What Will Happen To Cyanogen ROM Running Phones?
If you’re in anxiety right now and don’t know what will happen to your Cyanogen Powered devices. Don’t loose hope! you can move to CyanogenMod which is a development group that’s full of modders that make Cyanogen “MOD” ROMs However due to the closing of Cyanogen Inc, CyanogenMod has to rely 100% on the android development community for the development of the latest android builds.
However, this means you’ll have to wait a bit more for CyanogenMod ROMs to come out and for some phones, there may be no development at all from now. Or if you want, you can go for any other ROM OEM if you want faster updates.
Cyanogen Inc. Words On This:
As part of the ongoing consolidation of Cyanogen, all services and Cyanogen-supported nightly builds will be discontinued no later than 12/31/16. The open source project and source code will remain available for anyone who wants to build CyanogenMod personally.
